Thanksgiving In A Bowl

We have done many Thanksgiving themed recipes over the years, this time it’s an “all in one meal” that is carby stuffing with the extras added in. It’s comfort eating for sure, but with lots of protein added. It’s FBC (Freezer Bag Cooking) friendly, and we’ve provided 3 methods for making this quick dish.

We used freeze-dried meat and vegetables to keep the weight down in your pack, and to not require long hydration time.

Thanksgiving In A Bowl

In a quart freezer bag or a sandwich bag:

Also Take:

Directions:

Mark bag “Add 1 cup + 2 Tbsp water” and tuck the oil packet with the meal.

FBC Method:

Place the freezer bag in a FBC Cozy. Add in the oil and 1 cup + 2 Tablespoons boiled water to the dry ingredients. Mix and seal the bag.

Let sit insulated for 15 minutes.

Insulated Mug or Bowl Method:

Add the dry ingredients to the mug/bowl. Add the oil and 1 cup + 2 Tbsp boiling water, stir well, cover tightly.

Let sit for 15 minutes.

One Pot Method:

Add 1 cup + 2 Tablespoons and the oil to a small pot. Bring to a boil. Add in the dry ingredients, stir and cover tightly.

Let sit for 15 minutes.

In cold weather or at high altitude, wrap the pot in a pot cozy or similar to insulate.

Serves 1 large appetite.

Notes:

1 cup + 2 Tablespoons water will give a stiffer stuffing. For a more moist stuffing use 1¼ cups water.

For the stuffing, when measured out a 6 ounce bag will have about 3 cups dry. So you are using 1/3 the box. You can stash the rest in a bag or container and save for later. Each 1/3 of the box needs ½ cup boiling water and 1 Tablespoon fat for preparing later, if you wish. Lower-sodium stuffing mix is made by Stove-Top if you are watching your sodium intake.

Do not use dehydrated celery. It takes a long time to rehydrate.

You can now find lower sugar dried cranberries in the dried fruit aisle in grocery stores. Dried cranberries pack a lot of sugar for something so tart….just be wary about that.
