I hate missing out on First Day Hike on January 1st every year, so I found an easy and short hike to a state park we hadn’t visited yet, while we were traveling. A friend and hiking partner told me I should check out Kitsap Memorial State Park, as they live near it. It’s a great stop on the way to the Olympic Peninsula to use the bathroom and stretch your legs, especially if you are coming from the Seattle area, and came via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
The park has a popular RV area, little cabins to rent, and a lot of green space for kids to run on.

Alistaire in front, Walker behind him, as we headed down the path to the water access. The path to the beach is at the end of the park (the park isn’t big so it’s easy to spot), on the left side.
Depending on tide levels will be wether or not you have a beach to walk on. Expect it be rocky, as it is on the Hood Canal. It is more protected water, so isn’t wild like on the Salish Sea or the Pacific Ocean.

Maybe it’s not glorious wilderness, but it is pretty in winter. And lonely. Besides year round RV’ers the park doesn’t have too many people in off season.

The beach is low in winter, but we had enough to enjoy being on it. You can see the Hood Canal Bridge from here (it’s in the middle of the far right).
