Commercial Meal Review: Dab’s Smash Burger

Packit Gourmet just debuted a new meal. If you remember the All American Works Burger from them, this is a modern riff on it.

The new meal is Dab’s Smash Burger W/ Secret Sauce. It can be prepped warm or hot, and eaten alone or used in a wrap.

It is priced at $14.99.

Dry ingredients, with plenty of meat and vegetables.

Ground Beef (beef, salt, beef stock, natural flavoring), Cheddar Cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, annatto), Lentils, Butter, Olive Oil, Tomatoes, Sauteed White Onions (onion, safflower oil, caramel coloring), Organic Tomato Paste, Potato Starch, Burger Spice (spices, salt, onion, garlic), Mustard Powder, Beef Stock, Sliced White Onion, Champignon Mushroom, Apple Cider Vinegar (apple cider vinegar, maltodextrin), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice.

Nutritional Stats:

560 calories, 38 grams fat, 500 mg sodium, 37 grams protein, and 5 grams fiber.

It can be prepped with cool or warm water. We decided to try it with cool water and followed the 30-minute hydration note. If you use warm water, half the wait time is shaved off.

The meal requires only 3 ounces of water, so it’s a sipper. Since you can make it with cool water, this is a great high-protein choice for dry camping or where water isn’t easy to source.

The meal has the option to add the condiment packets if you want them, with no extra charge. I opted for all of them.

The wind blew my tiny mustard packet away, so after enjoying the meal, I had to comb the wildflowers till I found it – so no mustard on my burger (and the flowers were yellow….sigh!).

I spread the condiments on top and mixed them in; I loved their added taste.

You don’t notice the added lentils at all. The burger’s taste is great, and the sodium is so reasonable that almost anyone can enjoy it. I am loving this decade, when companies are using far less salt. You can always add more, but you cannot take it away.

Warm up two soft taco-sized flour tortillas and enjoy them as a lunch wrap, or consider adding a cup of instant rice to the bag and upping the hot water in another cup for a hearty casserole.
