Packit Gourmet has brought back their Poblano Corn Chowder for a limited time. I hadn’t picked it up before, and that was my loss!
I love corn chowder, and it’s not something you see targeted for hiking meals, especially in commercially made meals. There is so much to love about a thick and creamy chowder: It’s hearty, it warms the body and hydrates you after a long day. (See here and here for two of my favorite recipes for the trail.)
This soup smelled amazing upon opening the pouch. Fresh and vibrant.

Even with it being a chowder, it was sprinkled with ample produce.
Ingredients:
Sweet Corn Puree, Whole Milk, Organic Fire-Roasted Yellow Corn, Organic Whole Kernel Yellow Corn, Gravy Base (food starch-modified, palm oil, enriched bleached flour [wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], maltodextrin, salt, corn syrup solids, whey, sugar, contains less than 2%: buttermilk, nonfat milk, black pepper, mono & diglycerides, sodium caseinate, lactalbumin, dicalcium phosphate, color added), Masa (corn, lime), Monterey Jack Cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes), Broth Seasoning (salt, sugar, soybean oil, natural chicken flavor, turmeric, chicken broth, annatto powder, natural flavor, spices, onion, parsley), Zucchini Squash, Butter (sweet cream, salt, annatto, nonfat milk solids, sodium caseinate, disodium phosphate), Organic Chicken Stock, Spices, Minced Shallots, Red Pepper Spice (salt, spices, garlic, silicon dioxide), Red and Green Bell Peppers, Jalapeno Pepper, Cilantro, Organic Chives
It is a single-serving meal weighing 4 ounces. It is not vegetarian as it contains chicken broth.
It is a satisfying dinner with 420 calories, 15 grams of protein, only 580 mg of sodium, and 5 grams of fiber.
It is priced at $13.99, so it is on the pricier end, but I felt it was worth it. Packit Gourmet uses quality ingredients, and portions are ample.

Dry ingredients.
I added boiled water, as called for (1 1/3 cups), stirred it very well (make it get into the bag corners!), zipped it up, and wandered off for 15 minutes, going through tiny driftwood pieces for an art project at the beach.

That might keep me busy this weekend helping my middle son build his project.

Stirred up the chowder and dished it up to enjoy.
Wow.
Oh wow.
This soup is amazing. It tastes like corn that was just cut off the cob. It’s thick, rich, and has so much flavor.
I don’t say it lightly:
This meal is in the Top 10 of Best Commercial Meals we have ever reviewed.
Buy it before it disappears if you love corn chowder.
If you feel it needs meat, I suggest shelf-stable chopped bacon in small plastic bags. It would add a great salty and smoky flavor/texture.
