This recipe is FBC (Freezer Bag Cooking) friendly and has both it and one pot method directions.
You can eat it as a simple dish or do as we did and make them into burrito/tacos to get a few more calories and carbs in the meal.
Pulled pork is an interesting freeze-dried meat, that most haven’t tried. It can be left in chunks or powdered with your fingers.

Pulled Pork Burritos
Pack in a quart freezer or sandwich bag:
- ½ cup freeze-dried pulled pork
- ½ cup instant rice
- ¼ cup freeze-dried cheese (used pepper jack)
- ¼ cup freeze-dried red or green bell peppers
- 2 Tbsp dried diced onion
- 1 tsp low sodium beef bouillon
Also Take:
- flour tortillas (2 to 4 depending on size and appetite) (used Street Taco size)
- 1 Tbsp or 1 packet olive oil
FBC Method:
Place the freezer bag in an FBC Cozy or similar container. Add the oil and 1¼ cups boiled water. Stir well and seal tightly. Let sit for 15 minutes.
One Pot Method:
Add 1¼ cups water and the oil to a small pot (1.3 to 1.5 liters), bring to a boil. Add in the dry ingredients, stirring well. Cover tightly and turn off the stove.
In cooler temperatures or at altitude use a pot cozy to retain heat.
For both:
Serve on tortillas and roll up.
Serves 1.
Notes:
If you are out for the night or in cooler temperatures, you can carry individually wrapped cheese sticks instead. Dice them while boiling water and toss them in with the dry ingredients. In larger grocery stores, you can find pepper jack, cheddar, and more cheese sticks with the mozzarella ones. One or two work well.
