Food Find: Cup Noodles Protein

I’ll give Nissin Cup Noodles one thing – they keep bringing out innovative products. They might not be the healthiest of choices, but you will have options. And they are easy to grab on the way to the trailhead, since nearly every grocery store sells at least a few varieties of their products.

The new line is their Protein Noodles, which have double the protein compared to the regular noodles. I came across them at my local Food Lion, in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. They were not cheap at $1.79 a cup, compared to the regular ones, but other grocery chains offered them at a lower price. Amazon also carries them – I’ve included links below for your reference. They are $1.67 if bought in a six-pack online.

So…the protein does seem to come from TVP, so buyer beware if it makes your stomach upset.

What I found about the noodles was that the extra protein keeps them from absorbing all the broth. My cup noodle trick is to let them sit for about 10 minutes, so they plump up. It wasn’t bad, just different from what I normally expect. Now, I didn’t find these to be actually hot or spicy. They were a mild heat. Your mileage may vary. If you find ketchup “spicy”.

They taste just like regular beef noodles. I am not sure if that was real beef or not, but the boys enjoyed getting a rare treat to try out. Not too bad, but not nutritionally great for us. It’s an easy option, and at least it packs a lot more protein than the usual.
