Beef and peas are a hard-to-beat protein combo. Freeze-dried beef has 32 grams of protein per cup, and serving peas adds another 6 grams, along with 6 grams of fiber.
I find that diced freeze-dried beef needs a few extra minutes of dehydration, so give it a full 20 minutes. You can use freeze-dried ground beef instead, for a quicker rehydration time.
If you want carbs, instant rice would be a good choice, adding ¼ to ½ cup dry to the bag, and upping the water by that much.

- 1 Tbsp butter powder
- 1 Tbsp shelf-stable Parmesan cheese
Also Take:
- 1 Tbsp or 1 packet olive oil
Directions:
Pack everything but the oil in a quart freezer or MRE mylar bag.
FBC Method:
Place the quart freezer bag in an FBC cozy. Add the oil and 1 cup boiled water, stirring well. Seal tightly and let sit for 20 minutes.
If using a mylar bag, follow the same directions.
One Pot Method:
Add the oil and 1 cup water to a small pot and bring to a boil. Add the dry ingredients, stirring well. Cover tightly and let sit for 20 minutes. In cooler weather or at high altitudes, use a pot cozy to insulate.
