Food Find: Salsa Queen Freeze-dried Salsas

I finally conquered the algorithm of social media to be shown nearly only outdoor-related items. This led to seeing an ad for Salsa Queen, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based company. It’s a fresh salsa company that just started carrying freeze-dried salsa, that they ship across the US.

Salsa is life. It gives food so much flavor, and it’s time we had single-serving packets ready to take on the trail and adventures. Being freeze-dried, it’s lightweight and portable.

Salsa cures bad moods. It is proven and fact-based. At least my research shows that……

I was having a bad day, and I felt bleak and unhappy when the post lady came by and dropped off a mailer—and it had SALSA in it!

Well, that perked me up quickly, and I headed out to restore my soul at the beach with a bag of crispy, crunchy tortilla chips.

Salsa Queen offers four flavors for $3.99 each. If you buy five or more packets, shipping is free. They also offer 2 of the flavors in large packs for those who really love salsa!

In theory, each small packet has three servings of salsa. I’d say it is 1-2, but then…I view salsa as cold soup sometimes. If it is tasty, I just cannot stop.

Each bag tells you how much water will be needed. It doesn’t take much water, and they all rehydrate quickly.

Dry ingredients are nicely powdered and ready to add cool water for quick rehydration. I gave each flavor about 10 minutes to sit, after adding the water. I sealed up tightly and shook each bag to ensure they were mixed, then left to do its magic.

Mango Pineapple Salsa.

If you only buy one salsa, this is it. Hands down.

It is sweet, fruity, refreshing, and drinkable. It is SO GOOD.

Not spicy or hot.

Perfect for eggs, breakfast burritos, or fish tacos. Or with plenty of crunchy chips.

Red Chili Salsa.

You like heat? Spicy? This is the salsa for you. Excellent on everything, it would spice up any boring items rolled in tortillas, for a quick trip to flavor town.

But spicy. Really. You’ll be encouraged to hydrate.

Roasted Tomatillo Salsa.

It is the smallest serving of the four varieties. But it makes up for it with the flavor.

Love a good verde salsa? It’s got a good smooth texture (the seeds are not bothersome at all).

Just enough heat and spice to waken your mouth up. But it’s not too spicy.

This would be so good on eggs in the morning.

Zesty Cantina Salsa.

This is the largest pouch of all the salsa varieties. Best for if you are sharing in camp.

Of the four salsa varieties, this one is chunky. They are still small pieces but need 15 minutes to rehydrate to achieve the best tomato dice texture.

If you like a fresh cut salsa, where it feels like some pico de gallo was added, this is it.

Excellent for chips and kicking back.

It is mild for heat and spice but full of delicious flavor.
