We are always on the lookout for savory meals to review. I hadn’t tried out this meal from Packit Gourmet, so I gave it a try this past week. Anything even remotely spicy and warm really helps you warm up when out in the snow! Day 17 has arrived, and at least it has warmed up to 20 as I write this.
Big’un Burrito with Fajita Chicken:

The meal is a single serving, at $14.99. The meal is fiber-rich and high in protein, without being high in sodium. It is a filling meal as well.
You could easily serve two hikers if you bring along flour tortillas (heat them up!) and you have two generous burritos.

The ingredient list is decent and features black beans and brown rice. It’s a great addition to the The Hippy Hut™ collection.

Ingredients:
Whole Black Beans, Brown Rice, Organic Whole Kernel Yellow Corn, Monterey Jack Cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes), Seasoned Refried Black Beans (black beans, onion, red pepper, garlic, chipotle chile, canola oil, salt, spices), Cheddar Cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, annatto), Chicken (white meat), Spices, Organic Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Red and Green Bell Peppers, Spinach, Tomatoes, White Onion, Organic Tomato Paste, Paprika, Bell Peppers, Green Chiles, Lime Juice, Buttermilk Ranch Dressing (buttermilk, garlic, salt, onion, corn starch, yeast, pepper, citric acid, dill weed, spices), Cilantro

It has a little heat and lots of spices. Some won’t like this meal, but I like rice and beans. The chicken blends in – no big pieces, which sometimes don’t rehydrate well, so that was a solid plus! I had it as a burrito, the only thing I wished I had was a packet of sour cream to add on top, or some queso cheese sauce.
It’s a very filling meal, great for cold evenings.
