With fall approaching, oats can be a comforting way to start the day, cutting through the chill of early mornings. It was a great breakfast for the last day of summer.
This recipe was designed for boondocking, and I made it in our trailer. It can be easily prepped for car camping or backpacking.

Dry ingredients.

Heating the water and peaches to a boil.

Adding the oats.
Peachy Oats
In a zip-top bag:
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- ¼ dry milk
- 2 Tbsp sweetener of choice
- 2 Tbsp butter powder
- 1 tsp pumpkin spice blend
Also Take:
- 2 single-serving cups of diced peaches, packed in juice or no-sugar
Directions:
Add 2 cups of water and the peaches (it’s OK to add the liquid for a sweeter oatmeal), bring to a boil.
Add in the dry ingredients, stirring well. Return to a simmer, then reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
Remove it from the stove and let it sit for a few minutes to cool, then serve.
To add more nutrition, stir in a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter per bowl.
Serves 2.
