Moving isn’t easy. Moving across the country is even more complicated. When one has to pack up and move a massive amount of freeze-dried food, it’s a lot to plan. When it finally showed up, I was so happy, and I had it stacked high in its heavy-duty Home Depot moving boxes. Shut the door and walked away. I was glad it had made it across the country, but I had more pressing issues.
Life has been so busy the past 4.5 months. I had to move in and get kids in school. Do summer with them. Back in school. Build a new massive garden to start Version 5 of our homestead, Never Free Farm. And periodically, get a hike this summer.

Last weekend, being Labor Day, we tackled the mess and started building the storage racks.

I then worked on organizing all the mylar bags of ingredients we freeze-dried ourselves.

I went thru many moving boxes, organizing the ingredients. Freeze-dried cheese 🧀? All in one. Peas 🫛 and corn 🌽 in another. Many hours later, I knew what we had in stock. I also found all the freeze dryer parts so I can get back to producing. Having it all organized, I know what I have and need for trail cooking 🍳
But what I have now is access to my freeze-dried ingredients. So I can get back to creating recipes for the outdoors. For the past 5 months, everything has been sealed in boxes. I have been jotting down recipe ideas. Pages of notes 📝 Finally, I can start creating once again! I hauled up a big pile of cans and mylar bags: chicken, beef, peas, corn, cheese, berries, and so much more.
Fall will bring new recipes, so keep an eye out for them.
