Food Find: Protein Instant Mashed Potatoes

New on the market is Idahoan +PROTEIN instant mashed potatoes.

They had 3 flavors, at $1.99 per pouch at the local Food Lion. Amazon carries them as well.
We picked the buttery homestyle to see how it compared to the standard version.
Orginal version (it was $1.25 on sale).
The nutritional stats compared. At the same serving size, the protein version adds in 20 more calories, 4 grams more protein.
The +PROTEIN: I was shocked that these not only tasted better but had better texture. The potatoes were smooth and easily scooped, not dry at all. They were slightly sweeter due to the whey protein, but due to that, they were less salty tasting. For instant potatoes 🥔 these are a win.
Orginal version: As normal to this brand, the potatoes are pretty stiff in texture. You can a bit more hot water to make them creamier. They tend to be very savory, with a noticeable salty flavor profile. I typically buy the brand’s lower sodium version due to this. As per normal, eating them plain, you feel like you need a drink to wash it down.

So yes, these are worth trying out if you use instant mashers in your trail meals!
