Food Find: Choc Zero S’mallows and Sea Salt Caramels

I have enjoyed all the Choc Zero products I have picked up, with each item surpassing my hopes. Sugar-free sweet items can be a mixed bag: stomach distress, bloating, aftertaste, waxy texture, you name it…it’s the normal you get with keto-friendly sugar-free. But I haven’t experienced any of that with Choc Zero.

Rather, Choc Zero is like a unicorn in the industry. They don’t use sugar alcohols, so there is no cooling effect on the tongue and no GI distress. No Sucralose, no stevia. It’s just pure monk fruit extract. So, the flavor is on point. They are also a smaller company, so it is highly flexible in changing products as they develop better recipes and methods. They don’t stay stagnant, for sure!

The company ships quickly and you can find all their products that way (I initially found the company in a keto food store). They also sell on Amazon, in case you have Prime Shipping, and a hankering for something within 2 days. That lets me have a treat here and there, and not buy too many goodies. Because, I know I will have no will power!

I had seen mention of the caramels on their Facebook page and had to try them. I was happy to see Amazon had them.

At $5.49 for 3.5 ounces on Amazon, it might seem bougie, but it is well worth the money. These are savoring caramels. They melt in your mouth and are so pleasantly chewy. There is about 9 individually wrapped pieces of candy.

On the Choc Zero website they are $4.99 a box. Because they are so freaking good, they also come in a 9-ounce “family” size (hahaha….more like a desk box!).

Ingredients:

Non-GMO resistant dextrin, fructooligosaccharides (chicory root), milk fat, sustainable palm oil, whole milk powder, sunflower lecithin, salt, Madagascar vanilla beans, baking soda, monk fruit extract. Contains Milk.

Sugar-free marshmallows.

Each bag has 3 mylar bags inside. I counted 19 marshmallows in one bag. The marshmallows are a bit denser than a “regular” one but have all the flavor without being sickly sweet. They are, to me, perfect. You will want to keep them tightly sealed once opened up, in an airtight container. But for a trip, where you might have a campfire (or even toast them over a stove), one packet is the perfect amount. You could stash them in a zip-top bag, and they’d stay fresh for the trip.

I picked up the S’mallows to have toasted marshmallows and not feel sick after a sugar rush. I love having fires in our Solo Stove with the boys, and S’mores are like a family thing for us.

They are a 10.5-ounce bag (now coming in a box!) on Amazon for $8.54. While that seems pricey, niche marshmallows are not cheap – vegan ones are quite pricey and full of sugar. For me, I’d rather pay a little extra and know I can enjoy a fun time, without paying for it later in overeating sugar. That is priceless.

On Choc Zero’s website they are $8.99, so actually a little more money than Amazon. (So yes, these contain gelatin, so are made from animal, as most marshmallows are.)

Ingredients:

Non-GMO resistant dextrin, fructooligosaccharides, water, gelatin, natural vanilla flavor, monk fruit extract.

The Takeaway:

I’d happily buy both of these products again. They give me joy for sure.
