I came across the Starkist Smart Bowls at a local grocery store and picked up the two flavors they had. They were on sale for $1 a pouch, a bargain for a shelf-stable, ready-to-eat meal. You can find them in many grocery stores, and also in Super Walmart locations. They are in the canned/pouch tuna aisle.

We reviewed them right out of the bag and didn’t heat them up. For an on-the-go pouch, it is a great option—and no, it doesn’t need to be heated up at all. Just bring a long-handled spoon!
Rip open and give the pouch a good stir, then enjoy.

Up first, the Latin Citrus, tuna with quinoa, beans, and vegetables.
At 160 calories, 600 mg sodium, and 10 grams of protein, it’s a nice mix.

It did contain plenty of vegetables. I am not often a quinoa fan, but it had great flavor and texture. I might add that the quinoa is cooked correctly.

The Spicy Pepper isn’t too spicy, but has a nice heat.

As with the other one, it has plenty of vegetables.
170 calories, 11 grams of protein, and 600 mg of sodium.

Kirk and I split the two bags and found them satisfying for a small meal or snack. They don’t have a heavy tuna smell, like plain tuna packets often do.
They are not low-carb, though, due to the beans/grains, but overall, they are a good mix of what one needs when hiking.
