Commercial Meal Review: Thrive Life Apple Cinnamon Granola

Thrive Life has introduced two ready to go Freeze Dried Meals this month, adding to the 4 they already had brought to market, with more to come. Thrive Life has entered the market with meals, and have made some interesting choices. This is a no-cook option for breakfast, the Apple Cinnamon Granola. It has a 20 year shelf life and retails for $10.48 or $8.91 with the monthly delivery service. Compared to a similar type of meal on the market, which retails for $8.99 but serves 2 people – and each serving is 260 calories, you get a better deal with the Thrive Life bag.

While it doesn’t list “bag prep” on the back, I opened the pouch up, pulled out the oxygen packet, discarded it and added in the 1½ cups cool water called for. A good stir with a long handled spoon, seal the bag, and ignore for 5 minutes. Stir well, and dish up (or as we do….cut the top half of the bag off and eat out of the pouch for one person. the other in a bowl or a new bag). The mylar bags are the same as other brands use, and are very durable.

The granola is a 3 serving meal, though I’d suggest it’s best for 2 hungry adults. Each serving is 240 calories, or 730 for the bag. The apples are crisp, with lots of flavor, the granola is crisp/chewy as it should be. The ingredient list is short – granola, milk and apples. Both it and the competition have the same basic ingredients and sugar content (which is a bit high for me, but will satisfy a sweet tooth – even children).

Prepped for eating.

It tasted just like granola I sometimes pick up for Kirk, out of the fancy bulk bins at the local Hippy Hut. So taste wise it is very good. Crunchy, and the apples rehydrate nicely.
