First Day Hike: Cedar River Trail

What hike for First Day Hike?

Today it was a one-way hike/walk of the Green To Cedar Rivers Trail, which I can walk onto from our house, and we followed it to its end, on the north end of Maple Valley. Turn a right onto the Cedar River Trail and walk to the end of it, in Landsburg.

Kirk picked us up at the end to make the hike easier. It’s two rail to trails, both of which are unpaved for ease on your feet. I like going in winter. I see almost no one, and no bugs or horses is a bonus.

Being cold, and a longer walk (though nearly flat) I had the jogger stroller loaded up so the kids could ride once they were worn out. They had insulated seats to keep them warm, and blankets to keep the chill away.

Leaving our house, as you drop on to the Cedar To Green Rivers Trail, if you look back you can see Tahoma (Mt. Rainier) through a gap in the trees.

I wore the boys out in the first 2 miles, letting them putz around. Alistaire having fun in a rotting cedar tree mess, along Lake Wilderness.

Coming to one of the railroad trestle bridges. Be wary as they can be really icy in the winter months (they are concrete, so hold ice).

At the end of the Cedar River Trail, as we were nearly to Landsburg. The sun was out and actually warm where there was no shade.

For January 1st it was a good day of walking!
