Sipping Hot Chocolate

Cold mornings call for warm drinks, and this backpacking recipe for rich cocoa is great for all ages. Add in some instant espresso powder for a mocha for the adults.

Sipping Hot Chocolate


  • ¼ cup dry milk
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • Pinch fine sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp chocolate chips


Mix the dry milk, cocoa powder, sugar and salt together, with a fork, until well mixed. Divide in half, into two snack size bags. Add 1 Tablespoon chocolate chips into each bag, seal tightly.

Mark each bag “Add 1 cup water”.

In camp:

Add 1 bag mix to a mug, stir in 1cup boiling water till smooth.

Makes 2 servings total.
