Food Find: Packit Gourmet Smoothies

Years ago, when Packit Gourmet had first started, they had a couple of smoothies they sold. They were one of the few items I didn’t pick up and review long ago. Why? I’m not sure, but I also wasn’t a smoothie kind of person then. If I remember right, the early version had artificial coloring, which it doesn’t now (yay!).

My taste has changed over the years, and I definitely love thick, creamy – and cold drinks when hiking or after a hard day. It’s refreshing and easy on the stomach. They can also be a great source of protein, depending on the brand.

Packit Gourmet has brought back two of the smoothies for a limited run. At 400 calories, they pack a punch for fueling up and have an amazing 34 grams of protein, with no chalky protein powder taste.

Peach Passion 🍑

Peach Passion 🍑 Smoothie

Ingredients: Sweet Dairy Whey, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Whole Milk, Peach Puree (peaches, silicon dioxide), Passion Fruit Puree (passion fruit, silicon dioxide), Peach Pulp ([peach, ascorbic acid, citric acid], corn starch, maltodextrin), Greek Yogurt (nonfat milk solids, culture, lactic acid, natural flavor), Pomegranate Puree (pomegranate, silica dioxide), Pure Vanilla, Raspberry Puree, Sea Salt

At $10.49 per pouch, no, it isn’t cheap. It is, however, quite delicious. Kirk liked the texture (it’s smooth) and the taste. He commented that it was the proper thickness of a smoothie, not watery.

Berry Berry

Berry Berry Smoothie

Ingredients: Sweet Dairy Whey, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Whole Milk, Raspberry Puree, Strawberry Puree (strawberries, silicon dioxide), Greek Yogurt (nonfat milk solids, culture, lactic acid, natural flavor), Pure Vanilla, Lime Juice (corn syrup, lime juice, lime oil), Strawberries, Sea Salt.

Ready to enjoy.
These smoothies are low-sodium but still have a pinch to give a great flavor. And a great source of potassium as well.

I liked the berry more than the peach, but I love berry flavors. Kirk liked the flavor but noted it had berry bits. I liked that, he didn’t. So we each had a favorite.

I prepared the smoothies in a shaker bottle, but they can be prepped in the bag as well. Just easier to drink and not spill it down my front.

They take 8 ounces cold water, but if you like thinner, use up to 10 ounces. And really shake, shake, shake, let rest for 5 minutes, then shake again.

Is it dietary friendly? For hiking and backpacking, I feel it’s fine. You are active. You can have a bit of sugar with all the protein. At home, we don’t consume much sugar, but I also know this drink would pop me up with short-term energy.
