Distance doesn’t always make hiking better. Sometimes, a hike just down the road might be what one needs, especially in the fall, when the days get shorter in the north. And it is a short hike? That doesn’t matter at all.
It’s about being outside, catching the fleeting light.

The air is crisp, clear and you can smell winter coming.

And then you might notice an old tree stump where an entire ecosystem lives, thriving immensely.

Two Red Huckleberry plants are starting: tiny mushrooms, moss, and massive fungi.
Every inch of it is covered in life. If you looked close enough, you could see tiny ants moving around.
And that was what I needed that day. The peacefulness of just being.
