Oats can make a quick breakfast backpacking recipe, that will fuel you for the day. Try them with the pleasant flavor of sunflower butter, a great alternative to peanut butter.
Brown Sugar & Sunflower Oats
Pack in a quart freezer bag or sandwich bag:
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1/4 cup dry milk (or non-dairy)
- 2 Tbsp raisins or diced dried fruit/berries
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Also take:
- 1 packet Sunbutter Sunflower Seed Spread
Freezer Bag Method:
Bring 2 cups water to a near boil. Add water to dry ingredients, stirring in slowly. Seal the bag and let it sit for a minute. Open and stir well. Add sunflower butter.
Insulated Mug Method:
Bring 2 cups water to boil. Add dry ingredients to a large insulated mug, stirring well. Cover and let sit for a minute. Stir in sunflower butter.
One Pot Method:
Bring 2 cups water to boil. Add dry ingredients, stirring well. Remove from heat and let rest for a minute. Stir in sunflower butter.
Serves 2.
Notes:
Carry an extra-quart freezer bag to easily serve two. Cuff down to make a “bowl,” divide the oatmeal, and enjoy.
