Everglades National Park: Eco Pond Trail 👣

After we visited the Flamingo Visitor Center in the Everglades, and hiked the Guy Bradley Trail, we visited Eco Pond Trail and hiked as much as we could before the mosquitoes drained us. I saw the trail on the area map I had picked up for free at the visitor center. It is .5 mile long.

Unlike the Guy Bradley Trail, Eco Pond had no wind and had trees surrounding the pond. With standing water, the issues get worse fast.

To find the trailhead, continue on the road past the visitor center, towards the campground. There is a pull off on the right side for a number of cars.

The trail is marked with a sign, but no other information.

Walk down the trail to start a loop around the pond. In the PNW, this would have been called a lake.

First view.
The trail is a single jeep (or probably tractor) width and isn’t level. The trail isn’t handicap accessible.
On trees we passed.
A bit down we saw a metal observation deck and went to see the view.
Brackish and very still water.
Looking across.
Morning Glory family, I’d think.
As we stood there, I looked to the left and saw ripples in the water. Something was out there. Most likely an alligator.

The hike is pretty in its own way, but the mosquitoes were unbearable. We didn’t finish the loop due to that, but we enjoyed the views.
