Quick Beef Stroganoff

This recipe dates back to the early years of Freezer Bag Cooking, and was submitted to us by a reader probably 17 or 18 years ago. We recently made the recipe and posted photos, plus redid the recipe more modern, along with 2 versions of flavor.

Quick Beef Stroganoff

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/3 cups broken plain ramen or chuka soba noodles
  • 1/3 cup cooked and dehydrated ground beef or ‘beef’ tvp
  • 1/3 cup crumbled dried mushrooms
  • 3 Tbsp powdered sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp diced dried onion
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
Instructions:

At home, pack sour cream powder and nutmeg in a small bag. The remaining ingredients go in a quart freezer bag.

Pour 2 cups near boiling water into the bag. Stir well, seal tightly, and put in an FBC cozy for 10 minutes. Drain off the broth carefully into a mug, if desired, for a bonus cup of hot broth to sip. Add nutmeg and sour cream powder to the bag and any extra broth as needed and mix well.

Serves 1 to 2.
Notes:
A packet of cream cheese (1 ounce) is a good substitute if you don’t have sour cream powder. If desired, add a packet of ketchup.
