Dry Onion Soup Mix
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp diced dried onion or shallots
- 4 tsp low sodium bouillon (beef or vegetable)
- 1 tsp granulated onion or powder (not onion salt)
- 1⁄4 tsp celery seed, preferably crushed
- 1⁄4 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients and store them in a tightly sealed bag or container. The mix is equivalent to a commercial envelope making 4 cups of soup.
Add to rice and other starch dishes to give flavor without added MSG or heavy sodium.
Add ¼ to ½ tsp salt to the mix, depending on your taste.
Notes:
Onion soup mixes are great for flavoring trail meals, except for the heavy sodium they contain. This recipe avoids that, allowing you to add salt to taste.
You can make it vegan by using vegan-friendly vegetable bouillon.
