Gorp Bars
Ingredients:
- 12-ounce bag semisweet chocolate chips
- 6 ounces of butterscotch chips
- 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
- ½ cup honey
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- 1 cup golden raisins
- ½ cup shredded coconut
- ½ cup chopped cashews
- ½ cup chopped peanuts, walnuts or almonds
At home:
Melt chips in a double boiler or in the microwave (carefully if you use the microwave) and blend in the honey. Pour over everything else in a large bowl. Mix well, working fast. Pour into a lightly oiled or parchment-lined 9×13 pan.
When partly cool, cut into bars of whatever size you like. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Store in the refrigerator or freezer until trail time.
Notes:
With homemade items, try to eat your product within 3-4 days of baking/making it. Most homemade items can be frozen safely in advance (cut into individual portions, wrapped, and stored in large freezer bags.). Most frozen items are good for 1-2 months in a freezer.
