Back in late 2021, I found Topo Athletic shoes at a running store, and they impressed me with their comfort and fit. The Topo Ultraventure shoes have since become my go-to workout shoes in our gym. Somewhere in 2022, I saw their Rekovr 2 shoes and picked them up. I had long sought an easy-to-wear pair of shoes that I could slip on but had support and good tread.
The Rekovr had all that. The Vibram soles are firm on my feet, handle all trail conditions (yes, sometimes I hike in them!), and are one-handed to put on. They don’t slop. They wear just like a laced pair of shoes.
At $120 a pair, they are not cheap. However, I still wear my first pair (they became my garden/homestead shoes when it’s not muddy). They still wear the same as new. A year later, I upgraded to a second pair, which is my non-homestead pair. I feel I have gotten my money’s worth out of the shoes.
Since the first pair, they have become my travel day shoes, especially in airports. They keep my feet warm yet not hot, and they are great for going through TSA – easy off and back on.
They are also not heavy shoes and pack easily if needed. They even went to Antarctica with me and were my ship’s daily choice. The felt fabric wears well, and the Vibram soles grip wet decks and easily handle light rain.
Stylish even! I wear them with and without socks, depending on the season. If you pick them up in Charcoal, they pair with almost anything, from jeans to hiking pants to dresses.

OK, maybe not stylish when paired with knee-high socks and capri pants…but you do, I’ll do me.
They are comfortable shoes to change into after hiking, and the soles make driving easy. They are far nicer in the off-season than putting on hiking sandals, especially if it is raining.
But the biggest reason I grew to love them is that they have the broad, natural toe area all Topo shoes have. Your toes naturally spread out, which works well when wearing socks (since I mostly only wear Injini toed socks). My feet don’t generally like modern shoes and prefer a natural spread. The less toe pain, the better.
Now, this is for women’s version. They make them for the men as well, but my husband hasn’t shown interest in wearing them. Maybe someday I will convert Kirk.
