Spring Ramblings

Between volunteering at my boys’ school and running our farm, it has been Spring hiking the past few weeks – sometimes with the boys, sometimes with Kirk, sometimes just me. Anytime I can get a mile in, it’s great training for the summer. All were on Whidbey Island or in Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington State.

The Cascade Mountains, with Glacier peak in the distance, across Saratoga Passage.

White Salmonberry flower, which I had never seen before. Not quite white, it had speckles of mustard on it. Normally it is intense pink/purple.

Trails on the island.

These trails are well graded and well taken care of.

Salmonberry flowers.

Salmonberries forming.

Hiking in the Trillium Forest near our farm.

We go when we can, and fit in quick hikes.

On the ferry coming back from Port Townsend with the boys.

One can cut across the historical part of the town using the many stairs.

At the Coupeville ferry dock, on Whidbey Island. The boys building in the sand.

Meerkerk Gardens, Greenbank on Whidbey Island. The flowers were approaching peak.

Walking the back trails, by the ponds. It’s leashed dog friendly as well.

Hiking in a flower heaven is a wonderful thing.

Even beach walks end up with sand digging. It’s just part of the deal. Mutiny Bay, Whidbey Island – with a view of the Olympic Mountains across the water.
